Nkambe, Cameroon – In a major boost to local commerce and hygiene, the Nkambe Council has completed the construction of ultra-modern meat and fish market shops, designed to improve the standard of food storage, hygiene, and overall market conditions. The new facility, located by the council area, is set to transform how meat and fish are sold in the municipality, providing a safer and more organized environment for both traders and consumers.
The new market shops feature advanced infrastructure, including tiled flooring, proper ventilation, and waste disposal systems, ensuring that meat and fish are stored in hygienic conditions, in line with national health standards. Each shop is equipped with refrigeration units to maintain the freshness of products, preventing spoilage and improving the overall quality of goods available to the public.
Speaking at the official launch of the new market shops, Mayor Musa Shey Nfor expressed his satisfaction with the project. “This initiative marks an important step in the development of Nkambe’s marketplace. The ultra-modern meat and fish market shops will not only improve the working conditions for our traders but also enhance food safety for consumers. We are committed to creating a healthier and more vibrant business environment for all.”
The construction of these new shops is part of the Council’s larger plan to modernize Nkambe’s markets, aligning with the goals of promoting economic growth and public health. Prior to the project, many traders were selling meat and fish in open-air stalls, which made it difficult to maintain adequate hygiene standards. With the new enclosed shops, traders will have better facilities to work from, ensuring that their products remain clean and safe for consumption.

Key Features of the Ultra-Modern Meat and Fish Market Shops Include:
• Refrigerated Storage Units: Each shop comes with cold storage facilities to keep meat and fish fresh for longer periods.
• Improved Sanitation: Modern drainage and waste disposal systems have been installed to ensure that waste is properly managed, reducing the risk of contamination.
• Ventilation and Lighting: The shops are well-ventilated and have been designed to allow natural light, providing a comfortable working environment for traders.
• Hygienic Design: Tiled floors and surfaces make it easier for traders to maintain cleanliness, contributing to overall market hygiene.
The Council worked closely with local traders’ associations during the planning and construction phase to ensure that the design of the shops met the needs of those who would use them. “We are thankful to the Council for providing these modern shops. It will make a big difference in how we store and sell our products,” said a local fish vendor.
The ultra-modern market is also expected to boost business by attracting more customers who are looking for fresh and hygienically handled meat and fish. By creating a clean and organized shopping environment, the Nkambe Council hopes to stimulate economic growth and improve the livelihoods of traders in the area.

Looking Ahead
With the successful completion of the meat and fish market shops, the Nkambe Council is already planning to extend the modernization initiative to other sections of the marketplace. Plans are underway for the construction of similar facilities for vegetable sellers, grain traders, and other market sectors, ensuring that all traders benefit from improved working conditions.
“The development of our markets is a priority for the Council, and this project is just the beginning. We are committed to making Nkambe a model for market infrastructure and sanitation,” said Mayor Shey
The Council invites residents and visitors to experience the new facility and to continue supporting local businesses as they transition into these modern shops. The Nkambe Council will continue its efforts to promote public health and economic prosperity for all residents.
